I always just close the Firefox tab and click on" join" in the dialogue box 00:21:08 Natalie: Also good to log in a little in advance in case there's an update! 00:21:10 Allison: Replying to "Weird thing about my Zoom sign in: I get a big dialogue box with my avatar and a place to click "Join" but I also have a tab left over on my browser (Firefox). I always just close the Firefox tab and click on" join" in the dialogue box" Me too (with Chrome). 00:22:38 Tom and pet: FWIW, if you use DuckDuckGo email addresses, tracking pixels are deleted. 00:25:48 Natalie: Does having tracking pixels explain why I get follow-up messages saying that I haven't opened previous messages & asking why? (which makes me very uncomfortable & a reason why I ignore the messages!) 00:26:08 E O'Driscoll: About tracking pixels: I thought the confirmation of opening email occurred only if you displayed the images? I guess not. 00:27:52 Tom and pet: Pixel are used because small, but any image in the email can be used for tracking 00:28:26 Tom and pet: Replying to "About tracking pixels: I thought the confirmation of opening email occurred only if you displayed the images? I guess not." It's true, but auto loading is common. I turn it off in Pegasus mail. 00:29:42 Tom and pet: It is possible to include images inside the email, so no external access needed. 00:33:02 Tom and pet: It's any external content, eg script 00:33:15 Chris Taylor, President OPCUG: Franz - One app to message them all https://meetfranz.com/ 00:33:46 E O'Driscoll: Too bad the language is "remote content". That doesn't sound very scary. Most people are probably unaware of all these dodgy tricks. 00:35:47 Chris Taylor, President OPCUG: Replying to "Too bad the language is "remote content". That doesn't sound very scary. Most people are probably unaware of all these dodgy tricks." Strictly speaking it is not necessarily bad. But it can be. The mail clients do typically talk about protecting your privacy. That is really what it is about. You are not going to get a compromised computer because of this. 00:36:25 Chris Taylor, President OPCUG: Replying to "It's any external content, eg script" Interesting - I had not considered scripts! 00:36:47 Tom and pet: The lifetime of the company.... 00:38:35 E O'Driscoll: Are we sure dinosaurs were hairy like leopards? 00:39:15 Stew Bruce: Replying to "Are we sure dinosaur..." Are you talking about Tom or the thing behind him? 00:39:37 Timothy: Replying to "Are we sure dinosaurs were hairy like leopards?" lol 00:40:34 Stew Bruce: Replying to "Are we sure dinosaur..." I think the current belief is that dinosaurs were feathered. 00:40:58 Timothy: That is correct. 00:44:22 Glen: I see WPA3 in your slide. Is WPA2 security still acceptable? 00:45:06 Chris Taylor, President OPCUG: WiFi hotspots NetSetMan https://www.netsetman.com/en/freeware 00:45:28 Stew Bruce: Internet providers also have hotspots their customers can access to save data on their mobiles. 00:53:40 Stew Bruce: SoftPerfect WiFi Guard : keep your Wi-Fi network secure 00:54:02 Chris Taylor, President OPCUG: WiFi Guard https://www.softperfect.com/products/wifiguard/ 00:54:30 E O'Driscoll: I need to get wifiguard for sure. 00:54:49 Glen: is there a price for this software 00:56:23 Tom and pet: X-tra 00:58:04 Tom and pet: Replying to "is there a price for this software" Free 00:59:19 Timothy: I have the same mouse that Alan has. 00:59:53 Chris Taylor, President OPCUG: Replying to "I have the same mouse that Alan has." Now you know what to do if it starts double-clicking! 01:00:18 Harvey Hope: Or throw it against the wall 01:00:42 Stew Bruce: I have burned through two Logitech mice in about 2 years. 01:00:54 Jocelyn Doire: I swapped the micro-switch from an old mouse using the old connector that fixed my mouse button. 01:00:58 Chris Taylor, President OPCUG: Replying to "Or throw it against the wall" At least that solution will result in one of the solutions proposed by Alan 😄 01:01:21 Tom and pet: If it is dust inside, opening it and cleaning it might help If your Logitech mouse has a software problem, try downloading Logitech Options+ and see if that can help. 01:01:22 Kal_Somo DPCUC: My Logitech mouse is the M-UAL120 & I use it tethered on the MAC Mini. Suits it very well being a small form factor. 01:02:53 Tom and pet: Most non-rechargeable lithium AA batteries (lithium–iron disulfide, Li‑FeS₂) are rated at 1.5 V nominal, similar to alkaline AAs. A fresh cell may measure roughly 1.6–1.8 V with no load 01:04:00 E O'Driscoll: One difference is the number of reviews perhaps. The first replacement mouse had one review. The M325 had almost 5,000. 01:04:12 Natalie: Logitech M705 has been great for me for years (though not cheap). No idea if it's still available. 01:04:17 E O'Driscoll: Although, who knows. 01:05:13 Chris Taylor, President OPCUG: Data Removal Services https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVJbmwfo4AI 01:06:10 Alan German (OPCUG Meeting Coordinator): Next up is - Any Other Questions? 01:06:49 Stew Bruce: Is 7-Zip still necessary? 01:07:34 Tom and pet: Live in California? California’s service is called DROP — the Delete Request and Opt-out Platform — run by the California Privacy Protection Agency (CalPrivacy). It lets California residents submit a single, verified deletion request that legally reaches every registered data broker in the state, instead of contacting each broker individually. And the data brokers are required BY LAW to keep your info off 01:08:33 Tom and pet: https://dashboard.operationprivacy.com lets you see and delete your data from brokers one at a time.... 01:09:38 Natalie: I've been getting messages from my banks recently warning about scams & fraud, outlining what to look out for. 01:09:49 Tom and pet: Legit data brokers DO result in more SPAM 01:10:19 Timothy: what is a "legit data broker" 01:12:19 Harvey Hope: 7-Zip works well on large zip files 01:12:42 Tom and pet: VulnerabilityᅠAffected versionsᅠFixed in / safe version CVE-2025-55188ᅠbefore 25.01ᅠ25.01+ security-tracker.debian CVE-2026-48095ᅠ26.00ᅠ26.01+ 7-zip+1 CVE-2026-14266ᅠ26.00ᅠ26.02+ thehackernews CVE-2025-11001 / CVE-2025-11002ᅠbefore 25.00ᅠ25.00+ threatlocker+1 CVE-2025-0411ᅠthrough 26.02ᅠnot clearly fixed in the snippets I found; needs current version check app.opencve 01:13:26 Harvey Hope: File Explorer experiences issues opening large zip files 01:13:28 Jeff Dubois: I seem to recall PKware's zip from the good old DOS days.
