MS stopped support on OneDrive Personal for Windows 8.1 users last summer. However, if you run FileZilla Pro (the registered version of the opern-source FileZilla) you can sync via FTP to several different cloud storage services like Google Drive or OneDrive as a workaround for the lack of support on OneDrive. 00:22:07 Natalie: The other quirk is that Google Drive access can only be people with a Gmail account., unless there's a workaround that I missed. 00:28:33 Chris Taylor: Sharing files on Dropbox https://www.dropbox.com/basic 00:30:02 Claudette: Is it really legit to create a Google account using someone else's email address? 00:31:34 Chris Taylor: @Claudette - I suspect (I can't recall exactly) that to complete the creation of a Google Account, the final step will be sent to the email address in question. So if you don't own the email address, no harm - it will fail until the owner of the email address completes things. 00:31:38 Tom Trottier: If it's already someone else's, you can't 00:31:43 Natalie: So that could be an alternative to sharing files with someone without a Google account? 00:31:51 Natalie: vs Google Drive 00:31:56 Jeff Dubois: Alan... same thing with Dropbox and FileZilla Pro. You can easily access Dropbox as well. I found this useful because Dropbox used to allow multiple PCs on one account but now limits it to three. 00:32:19 Chris Taylor: gSyncit https://www.fieldstonsoftware.com/software/gsyncit5 00:34:19 Chris Taylor: @Natalie - I think if you are going to restrict access - it really implies that the cloud provider HAS to have some means of authenticating the person. So they will need an account with that cloud provider. Or I suppose you could do the authentication through a 3rd party such as Facebook. I have seen cases where you could authenticate using Facebook. I would never do this! :-) 00:35:24 Chris Taylor: @Natalie - that's why I recommend sharing as a view only and that can easily be done using the method I showed and ANYONE with the URL to be able to view the file. No sign required. 00:42:18 Bob Herres: Harvey Hope re: gSyncit Excellent well done. Thank you! 00:42:29 Bill: Thanks Harvey...great! 00:42:46 Theresa Jamone: Thanks, Harvey! 00:42:51 Harvey Hope: Thank you! 00:49:23 Jeff Dubois: Thanks Harvey. Will be taking a closer look at gsync right after meeting. 00:51:57 Jeff Dubois: Recently upgraded a machine from 8.1 to 10 and did they system cleanup a few days after upgrade. 27GB of data in previous versions. 01:00:47 Alan German: Does anyone have any questions for the "Last Ten"? Enter them in the chat and we will try to find an answer for you! 01:09:49 Claudette: Thank you Chris and Tom. I don't think I would attempt to create a Google account with someone else email address unless the owner agrees. 01:12:58 KW-G: cool! I never knew what these acronyms meant on the calculator! 01:13:03 Tom Trottier: TY Stephane 01:13:35 Edward Morawski: Nice to know about this calculator 01:13:40 Elizabeth: Fantastic talk in the bases! I haven't thought about that for a long time! 01:13:55 Elizabeth: I didn't know about the calculator either. 01:14:25 Chris Taylor: Resolved bugs in Windows 10 v22H2 (as of 2023-01-10) https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/ release-health/resolved-issues-windows-10-22h2 Windows 10 v22H2 is a minor update https://www.windowscentral.com/software-apps/ windows-10/windows-10-version-22h2 Windows 10 end-of-life https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/products/windows-10-home-and-pro 01:14:50 Tom Trottier: I updated to January & found some cookies & shortcuts deleted 01:15:16 Jeff Dubois: Thanks everyone.
