How the Electric Telegraph Changed the World

Speaker: JB Burke, Prescott Computer Society (https://pcs4me.com/)

This month we have a special, two-hour presentation on an important tool in the history of communications. The 1800s saw the birth of the telegraph. This remarkable technology transformed the world, shrank vast distances into mere dots and dashes, and allowed instantaneous communication over long distances. We’ll see its impact on many aspects of life, commerce, news, warfare, and society. It’ll help you appreciate the telegraph’s pivotal role in shaping our modern world, setting the stage for today’s digital age. Don’t miss this fascinating story of the telegraph and its immense effect on our lives.

JB is the current President of the Prescott Computer Society. He worked in high-tech for 40 years, including more than 30 years with IBM. Now retired in Prescott Arizona, he provides technical support for friends and neighbours, dabbles in photography, and occasionally teaches lifelong-learning classes at Yavapai College.
