We are a group of computer enthusiasts.

Our purpose is to serve not only our members, but also the community at large. Members consist of folks like you and me who have joined together to help one another optimize the use of computer technology.  Members range from those who do not yet own a computer, to managers of corporate IT (Information Technology) departments, who want to share and help.

Our monthly meetings consist of presentations given on a variety of topics from speakers within the group as well as from outside sources. Open forum Q&A sessions allow members to find solutions to problems. Visitors are always welcome to attend our monthly meetings and Q&A sessions (currently via Zoom video conference) and meet our members. We also give in-person presentations at various branches of the Ottawa Public Library (OPL).

The OPCUG operates 3 Google Groups for disseminating and sharing information.  Members can enjoy these services by signing up. Here’s how.

Artificial Intelligence (AI): fun and useful tips (Ottawa Public Library)

Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools have exploded over the last few years. They can: supercharge your web searches & help you find the most relevant information; generate images & videos from text prompts; summarize web pages, YouTube videos, & PDF files; help you accomplish tasks in your programs; assist with creative writing; and more. Chris Taylor from the Ottawa PC Users' Group will show you how easily it can be done and how to avoid dreaded "AI hallucinations". And you can do it all (or most) for free.

Keeping passwords safe (Ottawa Public Library)

We are told: don't write down passwords; don't reuse passwords; make passwords long and complex. Chris Taylor, President of the Ottawa PC Users' Group will show how to use free software that stores all your usernames and passwords along with related information and protects them with a single, very strong password.
