Ottawa Food Bank For the past few years, the OPCUG has held a December Silent Auction through which donated computer and electronic items were "auctioned off" with ALL proceeds from the event going to the Ottawa Food Bank. One member has kindly donated a substantial number of used computer items with the objective of finding some of them a new home through our Silent Auction and, in the process, perhaps raising a few shekels for a good cause.

At our OPCUG's February board meeting, Jeff Dubois suggested that we provide a mechanism through which items ultimately destined for the auction (or sadly even to the eWaste event) might be purchased much in the same way one rescues a puppy or kitten facing an uncertain future. As such, the "Technology Rescue Initiative" was born.

A selection of used donated items will be posted to the OPCUG's website at https://opcug.ca/history/Auction/2015/rescue.html on April 8th and each item will be listed with a special "Pre-Auction Rescue Price". Anyone interested in purchasing any of these items may do so by simply clicking on the link beside each item and emailing the contact person listed for the item. All monies from the sale of these items will still go to the Ottawa Food Bank; they will just be held in trust until our regular Silent Auction event which will be held in December. Moreover, if you have any used items you wish to donate and have included in the "Rescue Initiative", please send a photo and description to and we'll add them to the webpage.

Looking for a video card? Need a spare network adapter? Something in a KVM? Need a few extra parts to build that Linux box you've wanted to tinker with? Rescue a piece of technology today by clicking on the "Pre-auction rescue" link to send an email with the item's info (if JavaScript is not enabled then send an email to with the description of the item you want to purchase).

Be sure to check the "Technology Rescue Initiative" webpage and remember, these items have been donated so ALL monies will be given directly to the Food Bank in our December drive. With its food industry partnerships and bulk purchasing power, the Ottawa Food Bank turns every $1 donated into $5 worth of food.

You can pickup the item(s) at one of our meetings on the second Wednesday of each month, at the Bush Theatre of the Canada Aviation and Space Museum, 11 Aviation Parkway, they start at 7:30pm and are open to all, or by contacting
